Future Earth Australia was represented at the recent in Helsinki, Finland by manager Kate Nairn. Hosted by the Academy, is a national branch of Future Earth, a global sustainability, research and innovation network.
Included in the congress proceedings were two large annual events 鈥 the Belmont Forum Plenary and the Future Earth Assembly.
Future Earth Australia is the new Australian member organisation to the Belmont Forum, linking its network into large international collaborative research actions.
鈥淪eeing researchers and national funding agencies from across the world work together to progress essential sustainability research was inspiring,鈥 Ms Nairn said.
The Future Earth Assembly brought together representatives from Future Earth鈥檚 9 Global Hubs, 20 National Committees and 27 Global Research Networks to share news and latest research and build community and collaboration across the network.
鈥淧resence at these events showcases the talent and strength of Australian research in global arenas and keeps Australia up to date with global agendas and direction setting,鈥 she said.

Australia is facing a multitude of urban challenges, reinforcing the need for a coherent national vision for its cities and regions. This update provides a pathway for governments to manage increasingly complex and interdependent urban challenges over the coming decade.
The project is the product of extensive national and cross-sector consultation, including city and regional workshops conducted in 2018 and 2019, and enhanced by a fresh round of consultations in the past 12 months.
